Why Sheffield Hallam?

  1. Award-winning teaching

The Sunday Times Good University Guide named us University of the Year for Teaching Quality in its 2020 edition. Our student satisfaction score – as measured by the independent National Student Survey – is at 82%.1

We hold a silver award from the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework, meaning we consistently exceed national quality requirements.

We are awarded five stars in the QS Star rating, achieving top Quality Standard Stars rating system 2019 5 gold stars marks in the categories of teaching, employability, facilities, innovation and inclusiveness.

We've risen six places in the 2021 Complete University Guide rankings and have been named in the top 20 for student satisfaction. We have also risen eight places in the Guardian League Table for 2021, seeing us break into the top 50 for the first time.

  1. We'll get you work ready

A full 96% of our students are in work or further study 15 months after graduating, with 73%* in highly skilled employment – above the sector average.

Our teaching gets you work-ready by showing you how to apply your knowledge. You'll learn the latest ideas and theories, but you'll also learn how to put them into practice.

All our courses have work experience opportunities embedded in each year of study. We deliver 23,000 placements and real-world projects every year, and work with over 1,000 organisations, from the BBC, Sony, Adidas and Disney to the NHS, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Sheffield United FC.

  1. Student support

In your first few weeks you'll meet three dedicated advisers – one to help with your studies, one for any personal support or advice you need, and one to help you start your career. They'll be with you every step on the way – right through to graduation and beyond. Plus our careers support has 96% student satisfaction.

  1. We're in the centre of an amazing student city

Sheffield is the 5th biggest city in the UK and Sheffield Hallam sits right at the heart of the city centre. We've got everything you need, from one of Europe's biggest shopping malls to thriving scenes in music, art, sport and culture. Plus, you can be in the Peak District National Park in just 20 minutes. There are 60,000 students living in Sheffield – so whatever you're into you'll find it, and you'll make new friends who are into it too.

  1. Brand new facilities

We're constantly updating and adding to the facilities you'll use on your course. We've invested over £100 million in new facilities over the last five years, including 24-hour libraries, student-designed study areas, and the same equipment you'll find in your future workplace – whether it's an aeroplane manufacturer or a hospital.

Over the next five years we’re planning to invest £220m in our campuses. We’ll be developing completely new buildings for Sheffield Business School and the College of Social Sciences and Arts. We’ll also be creating landscaped green spaces and refurbishing many of our existing facilities, including the Students’ Union building. The development will cement Hallam’s position at the heart of Sheffield’s economy and cityscape, and will deliver modern spaces designed for collaborative, flexible teaching and learning.

  1. We guarantee your accommodation

Live at the heart of uni life in dedicated student accommodation and a guaranteed place in halls in your first year. All our halls are in popular student areas near our campuses and most are less than a 10 minute walk from your lectures.

If you book your accommodation through us, all our halls are offering flexible tenancy start dates, deferred contracts, and have amended booking policies if you aren't able to start your course due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

  1. We're a top 5 modern university for research

This means you'll be taught by people who are experts in their subject and eager to share their knowledge and industry experience with you. Their research helps to make the world a better place and feeds directly into your learning.
