Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) is a university-level education institution based in the West of Ireland. International students can choose from a wide range of undergraduate courses, and a number of postgraduate (Masters and/or PhD) courses.
Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology provide students with a transformative university experience, empowering graduates to fully contribute to the social, economic and cultural betterment of society. It offers one of Ireland’s most striking and unique natural landscapes; and is the only institute of technology which is the three times winner of the Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year. Courses at GMIT are internationally accredited, are available at all levels of study and several of them are unique to GMIT. Offering more than 100 courses, they pride on having close links with industry and many of the courses include an accredited work placement.
Campus facilities include cafes and restaurants, libraries, IT facilities, gym, pitches, fitness centre, shops and banking. GMIT has an active Students’ Union which is instrumental in helping international students from more than 60 nationalities settle in. It manages the clubs and societies, entertainment and welfare campaigns.
There are over 60 clubs and societies at GMIT. Clubs offer sports such as cricket, rugby, archery, ladies soccer, karate, swimming, kayaking, hockey, kickboxing and sailing. societies include art, agri business, comedy, lgbt, photography, digital media, dj and gaming. GMIT campuses are surrounded by numerous clubs, pubs, theatres, restaurants and cafes.
The Students’ Union is instrumental in helping the international students settle in and get accommodation and an ‘accommodation listings’ is provided to choose from. Numerous houses, flats, full and half board rentals are available near all campuses as well as private run student villages.
The campuses lie in the West Coast of Ireland's ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ and are accessible by both bus and train. All are 2 and 3 hours distance from Shannon and Dublin airport respectively.
